The Paroli system is based on a positive betting progression. Taken from the Latin word for 'one that is equal' ('par'), this can be considered as simple as doubling your wager after each win, until three consecutive wins are achieved. Since the 16th century, many players used this when playing Basset, the famous Italian card game, but today, most use this in roulette and baccarat. How do Players use it?
When using the Paroli betting system, players want to win three times in a row, doubling their bet with each win. To get started on this, a single unit is placed on an even-money result, such as betting on Red during a game of roulette – if the bet fails, you bet one unit again, and carry on doing this over and over, without changing the amount, until you win. Following a win, you make a bet of two units – if this results in a loss, you then go back to betting a single unit; however, should your two-unit bet garner a win, the next bet should be doubled to four units. This would be the last bet of the progressive system, whether you win or you lose. You'll walk away from the table with either a loss of a single unit, or a victory of seven units.
Generally, the Paroli betting system is based on the idea that wins and losses come in streaks, and that you can boost your profits by placing more bets during your winning runs and less during losing ones: the system makes sure that no bet can ever risk more than a single unit from your bankroll. Bigger bets become possible by winning units from the House, and with every succession of three wins, your profit is seven units, and should cover your gathered losses. Unlike some other systems, the Paroli does not demand a large bankroll to reap its rewards – though you receive losses, they are gradual and low. Table limits also offer no obstacle.
Some players believe the system's risk is that the gathering of single-unit losses can exceed the seven-unit wins you need to pay for them; like most systems, this only benefits players when on a winning streak.
